GI physician to know: Dr. Nicholas LaRusso of Mayo Clinic

Nicholas F. LaRusso, MD, is a gastroenterologist with Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minn., and is a member of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Transplant Center at Mayo Clinic. He is a past president of the American Gastroenterological Association and currently chairs the AGA's Foundation for Digestive Health and Nutrition.

Dr. LaRusso has a professional interest in liver transplant, pathophysiology and therapy of hepatobiliary diseases. His principal research interest is hepatic epithelial cell function and dysfunction His work has been published in a number of prestigious journals, such as Aging Cell, Seminars in Liver Disease and Hepatology.

Dr. LaRusso also holds the academic ranks of professor of biochemistry/molecular biology and professor of medicine. He is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

Dr. LaRusso earned his medical degree at New York Medical College and completed his residency at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine, where he also completed his gastroenterology fellowship.
