GI physician leader to know: Dr. Lin Chang of UCLA

Lin Chang, MD, is director of the Digestive Health and Nutrition Clinic and UCLA GI Fellowship Training Program at University of California Los Angeles David Geffen School of Medicine. Additionally, she is the co-director of the Center for Neurobiology of Stress and a professor of digestive diseases/gastroenterology. She is a past president of the American Neurogastroenterology and Motility Society, and she is a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Chang has a clinical interest in functional gastrointestinal disorders, including irritable bowel syndrome, chronic constipation and functional dyspepsia. Her research is focused on the pathophysiology of IBS related to stress, sex differences and neuroendocrine alterations and the treatment of IBS.

Dr. Chang serves as the co-principal investigator for the Center for Neurobiology of Stress' NIH Specialized Centers of Research grant focusing on the role of sex and stress on brain-gut mechanisms underlying IBS. Over the course of her career she has received numerous awards, such as the AGA Distinguished Clinician Award. She has authored more than 75 original research articles, 20 book chapters and 50 review articles.

Dr. Chang earned her medical degree at UCLA School of Medicine. She completed her residency and a fellowship in gastroenterology at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center.
