GI physician leader to know: Dr. Anthony DiMarino of Jefferson University Hospitals

Anthony J. DiMarino Jr., MD, is chair of the division of gastroenterology and hepatology and director of the Celiac Center at Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia. He is also the William Rorer Professor of Medicine at Jefferson. He is board-certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine.

Dr. DiMarino has a professional interest in consultative gastroenterology, celiac disease, swallowing disorders, gastrointestinal motility and inflammable bowel disease. His research interests include new drug development in treatment of celiac disease, esophageal reflux and gastrointestinal endoscopic disinfection.

Dr. DiMarino has authored more than 80 original papers and his work has appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of Clinical Investigation and Gastroenterology. He has won numerous awards over the course of his career, including the Simon Komarov Prize for Excellence in Gastroenterology Research as well as the Physician of the Year award by the Philadelphia/Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Foundation for Ileitis and Colitis.

Dr. DiMarino earned his medical degree at Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia and completed his residency at Hahnemann University Hospital/Hospital of University of Pennsylvania. He completed his fellowship at the Hospital of University of Pennsylvania.
