GI leader to know: Dr. Ray Keate of Richmond Gastroenterology Associates

Ray Keate, MD, is a gastroenterologist at Richmond (Va.) Gastroenterology Associates.

Dr. Keate specializes in colon cancer, gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease and several others.

He began his career after earning his medical degree from New Orleans-based Tulane University. He completed an internship and residency at Bethesda, Md.-based Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He served as an internal medicine specialist in the army for five years, before returning to Walter Reed for his fellowship.

Dr. Keate served as a member of the U.S. Army for 12 years. The Army awarded him its Meritorious Service Medal for his work developing an internal medicine clinic at the Honolulu-based Tripler Army Medical Center.

After completing his service, he worked at the Phoenix-based Mayo Clinic in Arizona. He served as the chair of its gastroenterology and hepatology division.

Dr. Keate joined Richmond Gastroenterology Associates in 2003.
