Gastroenterologist to know: Dr. Edgar Achkar of Cleveland Clinic

Edgar Achkar, MD, is a member of the gastroenterology and hematology department at Cleveland Clinic. He previously served as president of the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Achkar’s clinical interests include esophageal disorders, motility testing, Barrett’s esophagus, colitis, colonic polyps, colonoscopy and endoscopic surgery. He is a master of the American College of Gastroenterology, a fellow of the American Gastroenterological Association and a member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Achkar earned his medical degree from Saint Joseph University Faculty of Medicine in Beirut, Lebanon, and completed both his residency and fellowship at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Mass. He completed an additional gastroenterology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic.
