Dr. Lowe will receive the award on May 20 during commencement ceremonies.
President Emeritus Jon Westling has described the Metcalf Awards for Excellence in Teaching as honors that “express Boston University’s understanding of the centrality of teaching in higher education.”
Dr. Lowe graduated from Harvard College and Harvard Medical School, and completed his residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He pursued subspecialty training in gastroenterology at Boston Medical Center. He later joined the gastroenterology faculty at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and recently returned to Boston Medical Center as a faculty member in the gastroenterology section.
Dr. Lowe’s clinical focus is in hepatology, and his practice encompasses all aspects of liver disease. His research focuses on liver disease, including viral hepatitis, cirrhosis, and advanced liver disease.
