Peter Holt, MD, of Rockefeller University in New York, wrote that the procedure could cause metabolic changes affecting a patient’s sensitivity to even small amounts of drink.
Reviewing several studies on alcohol metabolism after gastric bypass, Dr. Holt concluded patients should be very concerned about the possibility of elevated blood and breath alcohol concentrations out of proportion to intake.
