Drs. Steven Matulis, Martin Fried & more: 3 GI physicians making headlines

Pediatric gastroenterologist Martin Fried, MD, 60, was charged with attempted distribution of a painkiller and distribution of other drugs for non-medical reasons.

Thomas F. Imperiale, MD, a professor of gastroenterology and hepatology at the Indiana School of Medicine and a research scientist at the Regenstrief Institute and Indiana University Center for Health Services and Outcomes Research wrote an editorial published in the American Journal of Gastroenterology about the potential that “precision surveillance” techniques in colonoscopy have to improve outcomes for patients.

Charleston, W.Va.-based gastroenterologist Steven Matulis, MD, was sentenced to up to five years in prison and must pay a $10,000 fine after he was convicted of sexually abusing several patients.
