Three years ago, the American College of Gastroentology recommended African-Americans get a colonoscopy at age 45 instead of 50. However, many African Americans are unaware of this change and are not getting screened early. To increase awareness, Dr. Raymond created the video to the music of Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” but rewrote the lyrics replacing the famous “If you like it, then you shoulda put a ring on it” line into “If you don’t want it, then you better put a scope in it.”
Dr. Raymond is no stranger to employing unconventional educational methods. Last year, she created an animated music video to a Credence Clearwater Revival song and performs colon cancer awareness presentations as “The Diva of Doo” Ms. Butt Meddler.
