1. The award, which comes with a $20,000 research grant, is presented by the American Gastroenterological Association Research Foundation and The Dannon Company, a yogurt company based in White Plains, N.Y.

2. The award recognizes Dr. Wu for his project “Equol Production as a Model for the Impact of Diet on the Metabolome of the Gut Microbiota in Humans,” which investigates the impact of diet on the human gut microbiome.

3. Dr. Wu plans to use funds from the research grant to investigate models for small molecule generation by the gut microbiota.
