Dr. Nimgaonkar’s research focuses on refractory ascites, of which liver transplantation is the only current, definitive treatment. Dr. Nimgaonkar developed wireless shunt technology to pull the fluid from the peritoneal space into the stomach. With help of this technology, patients are able to manage a large part of their condition at home.
The award is supported by a grant from Boston Scientific.
