The award is given annually to one faculty member in the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. The award is described by the school as an annual faculty mentoring award initiated in 1999 in order to create a visible and prestigious way to formally recognize the critical value of mentoring in academic medicine.
Dr. Rustgi is chief of the division of gastroenterology for Perelman School of Medicine. He is also president-elect of the American Gastroenterological Association.
