Patients have vilified colonoscopy preparation as an all-over awful process, but recent changes could improve the experience for patients.
Here's the latest from Harvard Health Publishing:
1. The volume of prep solutions has dropped from four liters to two liters.
2. Some prep solutions can be consumed same-day. Patients take a laxative pill at 6 a.m. and then drink 64 ounces of prep solution at 7 a.m. They then undergo the procedure in the afternoon.
3. Patients can also add a splash of powder drink mix, Kool-Aid, Crystal Light or margarita mix to improve the taste of the solution. However, patients should avoid drinking anything red or orange, which could interfere with the procedure itself.
4. Some devices like Motus GI's Pure-Vu System exist to improve poorly prepared colons before the procedure. The Pure-Vu System integrates with colonoscopes to enable cleaning during the procedure.
