ColonaryConcepts begins phase IIb trial of novel colonoscopy prep kit — 5 insights

ColonaryConcepts, a device company, began a phase IIb trial of its colonoscopy preparation kit, EC Prep.

Here’s what you should know:

1. The phase IIb trial will assess the efficacy and safety of bowel prep, compared to a widely used product.

2. The kit comprises of bars and beverages with purgative active ingredient PEG 3350 and electrolytes inside of them.

3. The products aim to improve the colonoscopy preparation experience.

4. Sebela Pharmaceuticals holds the development and commercialization rights for EC Prep.

5. ColonaryConcepts’ phase IIa trial showed that 90-plus percent of patients rated their colonoscopies as excellent or good.

Indianapolis-based Indiana University School of Medicine Professor and lead clinical trial investigator Douglas Rex, MD, said in a release, “The opportunity to improve the colonoscopy experience, which already puts stress on some patients, with a safe, effective and more appealing preparation will be important to continue maximizing detection of potentially cancerous polyps.”
