CMS issues updated coverage notice for Medicare Advantage plans to cover Cologuard — 3 quick points

CMS released an updated Evidence of Coverage notice for Medicare Advantage plans, requiring those plans to cover Cologuard sans out-of-pocket costs.

Here are three quick points:

1. The updated notice affirms MA plans must include coverage of Cologuard every three years without patient coinsurance, copayments or deductibles.

2. This update also shows that CMS recognizes Cologuard as an A-graded preventive service, because MA plans must cover A-graded services without patient cost sharing.

3. CMS also released its 2017 model Evidence of Coverage notice for Medicare Advantage Organizations and included stool DNA-based colorectal cancer screening.
