CMS adds Cologuard to Medicare Advantage Star Ratings program: 4 key notes

CMS included Madison, Wis.-based Exact Sciences’ Cologuard in its Medicare Advantage Star Ratings program.

Here’s what you should know.

1. CMS will assign a star rating to Cologuard based on how many Medicare Advantage beneficiaries complete the colon cancer screening test.

2. Exact Sciences CEO Kevin Conroy said the company was pleased CMS included Cologuard in the star rating program. He added the incentive payers can take from the star program should “broaden adoption of Cologuard over time.”

3. CMS is awarding Medicare Advantage plans credit for Cologuard tests taken every year since 2014.

4. Mr. Conroy said Cologuard’s “unique characteristics can help Medicare Advantage plans provide better colon cancer screening to their patients, while helping increase their star ratings.”
