Bariatric Surgery Department at Lafayette General Medical Center Designated Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence

The bariatric surgery department at Lafayette General Medical Center has been designated as a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Surgical Review Corporation, according to a news release.

The designation was given to the surgeons, medical director Philip Gachassin, MD, and Dennis Eschete, MD, and to the center itself. The center achieved the designation by performing at least 125 bariatric surgical cases in the preceding 12-month period as well as meeting requirements in high-quality perioperative and long-term follow-up care. The center performs laparoscopic gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable gastric band and laparoscopic gastric sleeve procedures.
