Anti-Inflammatory Polyphenols Found in Apple Peels Can Prevent Colitis

A study discovered the oral ingestion of apple polyphenols, antioxidants found in apple peels, suppresses T cell activation and prevents colitis in mice, according to findings published in the Journal of Leukocyte Biology.

Researchers chemically induced colitis in mice and gave one group a placebo and the other group apple polyphenols every day during the regular course of the disease. Mice fed apple polyphenols were protected from colitis.
