Allergan taps paratriathlete Amy Dixon as spokesperson for IBS

Dublin, Ireland-based Allergan has partnered with the world champion paratriathlete Amy Dixon.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. Ms. Dixon is an irritable bowel syndrome with diarrhea, or IBS-D, patient.

2. Ms. Dixon will act as a spokesperson for Allergan, in which she will “share her story with fellow IBS-D sufferers and healthcare providers,” according to a news release. Her ultimate goal is to increase communication about IBS.

3. A major barrier to IBS diagnosis is lack of communication between patients and physicians, according to a recent survey commissioned by the American Gastroenterological Association, titled “IBS in America .”

4. Allergan will develop a website dedicated to “Amy’s Story,” which will include a physician discussion guide.
