American Gastroenterological Association President David Lieberman, MD, advocated on Capitol Hill for the Removing Barriers to Colorectal Cancer Screening Act, which addresses screening colonoscopy coinsurance for Medicare patients.

1. When Medicare beneficiaries have screening colonoscopies that become therapeutic, patients are then responsible for the bill.

2. Dr. Lieberman also sat in on a Congressional briefing with the AGA, American College of Gastroenterology and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy about colon cancer screening and its importance.
