ABIM Announces New Governance Structure, Gastroenterology Board Members

The American Board of Internal Medicine has announced a new governance structure, which will include a board of directors, council and subspecialty boards.

The board of directors will oversee overall strategy for ABIM, the council will be in charge of policy and procedure for certification and maintenance of certification in internal medicine and the subspecialty boards will be responsible for the development of standards for the 19 subspecialties included within internal medicine.

Kenneth R. McQuaid, MD, James M. Scheiman, MD will serve on the gastroenterology subspecialty board.

Dr. McQuaid is the interim chief of medical services and the chief of gastroenterology at San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center and a professor of clinical medicine at the University of California San Francisco.

Dr. Scheiman is the director of endoscopic research and a professor of internal medicine at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor.
