7 gastroenterologists making headlines

Here are seven gastroenterologists that made the news within the past week.

West Tennessee Gastro, based in Jackson, has added gastroenterologist Sufiyan H. Chaudhry, MD.

Vijay Khiani, MD, has joined Madison (Wis.) Medical Affiliates.

The University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center and the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy will host GI trainee fellows for a hands-on endoscopy workshop. Truptesh Kothari, MD, director of URMC’s developmental endoscopy lab, will lead the workshop. Vivek Kaul, MD, chief of the gastroenterology and hepatology division; Asad Ullah, MD, director of endoscopy; and Shivangi Kothari, MD, associate director of endoscopy, will also provide instruction.

Mayo Clinic and IBM have begun a collaboration to leverage IBM’s Watson cognitive computer to enroll patients in clinical trials. Mayo clinic gastroenterologist Nicholas LaRusso, MD, is serving as the project’s lead.

Sean Moore, MD, a pediatric gastroenterologist with Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, has received a $1 million Phase II grant from Grand Challenges Exploration, a Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation initiative.
