Here are five major partnerships or acquisitions shaping the GI industry:
1. Exton, Pa.-based U.S. Digestive Health was acquired by Optum’s SCA Health in early 2025. The platform includes 24 ASCs, 40 practice sites and more than 250 providers across Pennsylvania and surrounding states.
2. In June, Grass Valley, Calif.-based Dignity Health Medical Group—Sierra Nevada, a service of Dignity Health Medical Foundation, acquired Sierra Nevada Gastroenterology, also based in Grass Valley. The clinic will close June 9 and reopen June 16, rebranded as Dignity Health Medical Group—Sierra Nevada.
3. Also in June, Chesterfield, Mo.-based Gateway Gastroenterology partnered with United Surgical Partners International to open an outpatient endoscopy center. It is expected to open in the first half of 2026.
4. In November 2024, Cardinal Health acquired a majority stake in GI Alliance for $2.8 billion — one of the largest transactions in the gastroenterology sector in recent years.
5. Also in November, Albany (N.Y.) Gastroenterology was acquired by Allied Digestive Health.
