3 things to know about AGA researcher of the month, Dr. Meenakshi Rao

The American Gastroenterological Association named Meenakshi Rao, MD, PhD, its researcher of the month.

Three details about Dr. Rao:

1. She is a recipient of the 2016 AGA-Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Research Scholar Award in neurogastroenterology, which allowed her to bolster her research on the different symptoms between men and women with irritable bowel syndrome.

2. The AGA grant allowed Dr. Rao to lay the groundwork for her research and receive funding from the National Institutes of Health for research on how the gut nervous system causes disease.

3. Dr. Rao is an assistant professor of pediatrics at Harvard Medical School and an attending physician in the division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at Boston Children’s Hospital.
