Here are 11 mergers and acquisitions that occurred this year in the gastroenterology space:

Innovate Biopharmaceuticals is merging with RDD Pharma to create a gastroenterology company focused on specialty, rare and orphan diseases.

Gastroenterology-focused pharmaceutical company Phantom Pharmaceuticals will change up their executive ranks after Celgene Corp. is acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb.

Miami-based Gastro Health acquired Seattle-based Puget Sound Gastroenterology, its first acquisition away from its southeastern market base. Gastro Health also acquired Birmingham, Ala.-based Southeast Gastro and Longwood, Fla.-based Giles Gastroenterology Center, doing business as Gastroenterology Specialists.

Dallas-based GI Alliance continues to rapidly grow, partnering with Beaumont-based Southeast Texas Gastroenterology Associates. 

CRH Medical Corp. will acquire the remaining stake in Thornton-based Central Colorado Anesthesia Associates.

Exact Sciences will acquire diagnostic testing company Genomic Health in a $72 per share, $2.8 billion dollar deal, creating a globally focused cancer diagnostics company in the process.

Nashville, Tenn.-based Covenant Surgical Partners entered into a partnership with Phoenix-based Arizona Centers for Digestive Health, adding 11 practices to its portfolio.

AbbVie will acquire competitor Allergan for $63 billion.

Amulet Capital Partners formed US Digestive Health, a gastrointestinal-focused practice management organization, through its investment in three Pennsylvania GI practices.

Somerset, Ky.-based Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital acquired Cumberland Gastroenterology in Somerset.

Cantel Medical purchased the dental-focused water treatment, purification and management solutions business Vista Research Group.
