Fayetteville, N.C.-based FirstHealth Physician Group has appointed William Harris, MD, as its medical director of cardiology, according to a Feb. 21 report from the Greater Fayetteville Business Journal. 

The District of Columbia has the most cardiologists per capita, while Idaho has the fewest, according to January data from KFF.

Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours and Compass Surgical Partners have partnered to build a cardiovascular surgery center in Short Pump, Va., the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported Feb. 20.

Cardiologists were one of the three highest-paid physician specialties in 2023 and have held that ranking for the last three years.

The highest paid cardiologist in Pittsburgh earns $717,700, according to Medscape's salary reporter tool, which is much higher than the mean annual wage of $421,330 cardiologists make according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The American College of Cardiology has launched a new registry, which offers data insights on cardiac procedures performed in the ASC setting. 

Santosh Gupta-Bala, MD, 64, a cardiologist at Jefferson Health in Philadelphia, has died after her car rolled over her in the driveway of her home, according to a Feb. 12 report from Around Ambler.
