6 insights into the ambulatory, specialty EHR market — Expected to hit $5B by 2020

A Black Book Research report compiled the top ambulatory and specialty EHR system rankings from 8,950 physician practices across the U.S.

A total of 340 EHR systems were evaluated with seven vendors receiving top ratings. Polling was conducted between the third quarter of 2017 and the first quarter of 2018.

Here are six insights into the ambulatory EHR market.

1. AdvancedMD, drchrono, Epic Systems, NextGen, Net Smart, Modernizing Medicine and SIS Amkai had the highest physician practice satisfaction scores.

2. Black Book Research Managing Partner Doug Brown anticipates the market will continue to be dominated by single-solution offerings that integrate EHRs, revenue cycle management tools and coding and practice management services into a single platform.

3. Black Book anticipates the market will reach $5 billion by 2020.

4. The majority of ASC respondents prefer the SIS Amkai system.

5. Anesthesia practices prefer the Medaxion system.

6. ENT, ophthalmology, orthopedic and gastroenterology practices tended to opt for Modernizing Medicine systems.
