Excelsior Orthopedics is moving forward with its $6.2 million, two-phase expansion on an ASC affiliate, the Buffalo (N.Y.) Surgery Center, Buffalo Business First reported Nov. 4. 

Here are six COVID-19 updates from the past week that ASC leaders need to know: 

Dallas-based United Surgical Partners International, OptumHealth, which includes ASC chain Surgical Care Affiliates, and Brentwood, Tenn.-based Surgery Partners, are three of the largest ASC management companies. 

Two MSU Health gastroenterologists and a physician assistant have opened a gastroenterology clinic in Lansing, Mich., local station WKAR reported Nov. 3. 

The Sun City Ambulatory Surgery Center, a Physician Partners of America company in Tampa, Fla., is teaming up with local surgeons to provide gastrointestinal care, the company said Nov. 3. 

Exact Sciences reported an increase in third-quarter revenue, including a 31 percent jump in screening revenue compared to the same period last year.

Hollis Rogers III, MD, performed his 1,000th robotic surgery at Fayetteville, Ark.-based Washington Regional Medical Center, the hospital said Nov. 2.

Atlas Healthcare Partners named Heather Richards chief revenue optimization officer, the company said Nov. 2. 

Bipartisan legislation aimed to improve CMS access to ASCs, dubbed The Outpatient Surgery Quality and Access Act of 2021, was recently introduced in the House and Senate, the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association said in a Nov. 3. email. 

Brentwood, Tenn.-based Surgery Partners has deployed over $130 million on acquisitions to date.
