Why telemedicine matters: 5 takeaways

The Telemedicine Physician Group, a virtual medical care provider, explains how telemedicine is more cost-effective and better for patient care.

The group responded to a position paper written by the American College of Physicians, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine.

Here are five takeaways:

1. The paper noted since 2008, telemedicine has increased patient satisfaction.

2. Since the field is still evolving, the authors recommended physicians tread lightly along the telemedicine path so as not to provide patients with subpar care.

3. The Telemedicine Physician Group's founder and CEO Michael Farzam, MD, agreed with the recommendation of creating a strong physician-patient relationship that provides a consistent dialogue.

4. Further, Telemedicine Physician Group follows the suggestion about affordability, offering a flat rate for telemedicine visits and cutting administrative costs.

5. Just because the communication happens via technology, the high standards set in in-person care should not be lost in telemedicine.
