1. On average, 45.8 percent of physicians reported burnout.
2. Because of the intensity of their work, emergency physicians are aware of burnout.
3. In the study, hospitalists were not included as a specialty choice. However, hospitalists reported that excess workload “prevented them from fully discussing treatment options, caused delay in patient admissions and/or discharges and worsened patient satisfaction.”
4. Nearly 44 percent of hospitalists experience emotional exhaustion and 42.3 percent experienced depersonalization, as found in a Journal of Hospital Medicine study, according to MedPage Today.
5. The American Medical Association launched an initiative in June 2015 to address physician satisfaction. The AMA advocates for an open discussion paired with action to combat burn-out.
