Washington State's new medical school to focus on underserved populations — 5 quick facts

Washington State University in Pullman plans to recruit students for its new medical school, WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, according to MyNorthwest.com.

Here are five quick facts:

1. The medical school will place students in various communities to work.

2. The school will collaborate with the WSU College of Nursing and College of Pharmacy. Students will therefore receive a more all-encompassing education, preparing them for an integrated healthcare industry.

3. Medical students will receive their first two years of education at the Spokane campus, and then move to the Tri-Cities, Vancouver and Everett for their third year, fourth year and clinical rotations.

4. The goal of this process is to expose medical students to rural healthcare situations.

5. WSU plans to begin accepting students to its medical school in fall 2016 and receive accreditation by 2020.
