National Institutes of Health's Dr. Francis Collins to retain director position for now under Trump administration: 4 points

Francis Collins, MD, PhD, will maintain his position as National Institutes of Health's director with the new presidential administration, for now, according to STAT.

Here are four points:

1. STAT reports Dr. Collins' previous plans included stepping down from his position and going back to NIH's campus in Bethesda, Md., when President Donald Trump took office.

2. Dr. Collins changed his plans and for now, will stay on as NIH director.

3. At this time, it is unclear whether President Donald Trump will permanently reappoint Dr. Collins or if he will select someone to fill the position.

4. Since 2009, Dr. Collins has served as NIH director and has the support of many Republican legislators in Washington, D.C.
