Community Health Systems appoints Dr. James Williams as new board member: 5 notes

Franklin, Tenn.-based Community Health Systems appointed H. James Williams, PhD, MBA, JD, to its board of directors.

Here are five notes:

1. Dr. Williams served as president of Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., until September 2015. He has also served as a professor or dean at various universities.

2. He previously practiced partnership, corporate tax and contract law.

3. On the advisory board of Fifth Third Bank of Tennessee, Dr. Williams is also affiliated with the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority’s Air Service Coalition.

4. Dr. Williams received a master’s of business administration from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and his doctorate in accounting and finance from the University of Georgia in Athens. He holds a juris doctor and a master’s of law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C.

5. “His diverse experience in finance, law and higher education will complement our existing board strengths and provide additional insights,” said Wayne T. Smith, chairman and CEO of Community Health Systems.
