Central Florida's largest health system to continue growth via ASCs, outpatient facilities

In the midst of growing the largest health system in Central Florida, Orlando-based Florida Hospital and the Central Florida Division President and CEO Daryl Tol said more expansion is on the way through new ASCs and outpatient facilities, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Here's what you should know:

1. Florida Hospital has eight medical campuses and more than 25 urgent care locations in Central Florida. In 2018, the health system has plans to build three new urgent care centers and is constructing a 72,000-square-foot medical office building, with the state's approval to add a 100-bed hospital to the location.

2. Mr. Tol is already planning additional projects. He said although the system has enough property to expand both outpatient and inpatient services, he anticipates the system will acquire additional properties and finalize more expansion plans throughout the year.

3. Specifically, Mr. Tol mentioned expanding the system's ASC and outpatient clinical presence.

He said, "We've seen a lot of areas where there's a bit of Florida Hospital desert and we've had to go in and build rapidly to have a presence there. Just because another system might be there, it doesn't mean we don't have important work to do, because over time, an employer or payer might say that, ‘Florida Hospital or Orlando Health, you're all I need.’ We have to think carefully about our network and how to serve the broad market.”
