7 things for ASC leaders to know for Thursday — Sept. 7, 2017

Here are seven updates for ASC leaders to note:

The CORE Institute, Banner Health JV on orthopedic ASC
Phoenix-based The CORE Institute partnered with Arizona's largest health system, Banner Health, on a new orthopedic-driven ASC, Banner CORE Union Hills Surgery Center. The two parties struck a new ownership agreement for the former Banner Del E. Webb Surgery Center in Glendale, Ariz. Per the partnership, the new ASC will operate under the name, Banner CORE Union Hills Surgery Center.

Florida Senate to consider ASC 24-hour stay bill
During the 2018 legislative session, the Florida Senate will consider a bill permitting 24-hour stays at ASCs. The current bill deviates from prior legislation because it forbids ASCs from operating recovery care centers, in which patients can stay at the center for up to 72 hours post surgery.

Shifting cataract procedures to ASCs saved Medicare $4.1M in this state
In 2014, Medicare yielded $4.1 million in savings by moving cataract procedures to ASCs in Maine. When shifting colonoscopies to Maine ASCs, Medicare saved $540,000 in 2014.

2 Florida ASCs employ Navio orthopedic surgical system
Jacksonville (Fla.) Surgery Center and Orange Park (Fla.) Surgery Center implemented the Navio orthopedic surgical system for partial knee replacements. Through the system, surgeons can perform more accurate partial knee replacement surgeries using Smith & Nephew's JOURNEY UNI knee.

AAAHC taps Noel Adachi as president, CEO
The Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care named Noel Adachi president and CEO. In the positions, Ms. Adachi will be responsible for medical innovation, growth management and executive leadership.

Bellin Health acquires Gastroenterology Associates
Bellin Health acquired Gastroenterology Associates, both based in Green Bay, Wis. Bellin Health is rebranding the facility as Bellin Health Gastroenterology.

Wisconsin health system's expansion with ASC nearly complete
Wausau, Wis.-based Aspirus has almost completed its new clinic in Stevens Point, Wis.  The new facility will be 75,000 square feet and will include an ASC.
