PE firm launches oncology management group, acquires Indiana oncology practice
Pharos Capital Group acquired Lafayette, Ind.-based Horizon Oncology and concurrently launched its own venture, Verdi Oncology. Verdi is an oncology practice and clinical research management company. Wes Chapman, a Pharos Capital partner, will serve as the firm's CEO.

Avanza names Robert McDavitt to senior leadership
Avanza named Robert McDavitt, RN, senior consultant of development and operations. Mr. McDavitt first became a registered nurse in 1994 and has a background in the intensive care unit and emergency room. He also has experience as a hospital director of business development and outpatient surgery.

SmoothRock Surgery Center readies to open
Vestavia Hills, Ala.-based SmoothRock Surgery Center is preparing to open in a recently developed commercial business park. The surgery center is the park's anchor development. The center will be owned and operated by Surgical Dermatology Group in Vestavia Hills and Christopher Harmon, MD, respectively.

Providence Health completes purchase of former Walla Walla General Hospital site
Renton, Wash.-based Providence Health & Services purchased four vacant buildings which used to be Walla Walla (Wash.) General Hospital. Providence first plans to relocate its urgent care facility to the space. That project could start in late summer or early fall.
