The American Medical Association outlined three ways physician burnout can cost an organization.
Here are the insights the AMA shared:
1. Financial costs. Turnover can be a result of physician burnout, which can drive up costs associated with physician recruitment.
2. Patient care revenue loss. Even when senior physicians can be replaced from a pool of residents and fellows, when organizations don't realize the difference in skill and productivity, patient care revenue can be lost as a result.
3. Loss of productivity. When physicians experience burnout, they are often less productive.
