Why some hospitals don’t have ASCs

Hospitals are showing increasing interest in ASCs, but some are still hesitant, according to the annual “Hospital Leadership ASC Survey,” conducted by consulting group Avanza Healthcare Strategies and published Nov. 8.

Here is why respondents said they do not have ASCs:

  • Regulatory obstacles (such as certificate-of-need laws).
  • Lack of outpatient surgical volume.
  • ASCs are a consideration, but not yet a priority.
  • The hospital system will have an ASC soon.

At the Becker's 23rd Annual Spine, Orthopedic and Pain Management-Driven ASC + The Future of Spine Conference, taking place June 11-13 in Chicago, spine surgeons, orthopedic leaders and ASC executives will come together to explore minimally invasive techniques, ASC growth strategies and innovations shaping the future of outpatient spine care.
