University of Maryland Medical System plans $50M investment in medical center with ASC — 4 fast facts

Baltimore-based University of Maryland Medical System filed a plan to invest $50 million in a new medical center next to the Laurel (Md.) Regional Hospital, The Baltimore Sun reports.

Here are four fast facts.

1. The new facility UM Laurel Medical Center will feature a surgery center, 24/7 emergency care, behavioral health resources and outpatient programs such as wellness promotion.

2. The proposed medical center will have two operating rooms and two procedure rooms, as well as imaging services, a pharmacy and a lab.

3. Pending regulatory approval, the building is expected to be completed in spring 2021.

4. The medical system formed a community engagement team to keep patients, local residents and other stakeholders informed about the project and solicit their feedback.

A community informational hearing on the project will be held May 7.
