Connecticut-based North East Alliance Surgery center to open in the fall, include total joints & spine: 5 key points

North East Alliance Surgery Center in Hamden, Conn., plans to open in the fall in partnership with Surgical Care Affiliates.

Here are five things to know.

1. The surgery center will specialize in orthopedics, spine and podiatric surgery as well as offer pain management, retina care and interventional cardiology.

2. The surgery center and its physicians work closely with primary care, physiatrist and interventional pain management physicians to improve the continuity of care before and after procedures. Richard Guerrier, MD, CMO of ProHealth Physicians, a Connecticut-based medical group offering primary and walk-in care, said his group is excited to partner with NEASC.

"This partnership will further increase our access to clinical best practices and data, which will drive value for patients, health plans and employers," said Dr. Guerrier.

3. NEASC will bring 20 full-time jobs to Hamden during its first year of operation. "North East Alliance Surgery Center will provide safe, innovative, high volume ambulatory surgical care with an added focus on optimizing patient postoperative recovery and outcomes," said Founder James J. Yue, MD. "We look forward to collaborating with local hospitals and university medical and allied health schools to enhance ambulatory surgical education and create jobs."

4. The Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development partnered with NEASC and Hamden to expand its business and workforce. "The North East Alliance Surgery Center will create quality jobs, improve the tax base and most importantly provide quality healthcare to residents in Hamden and its surrounding towns said Dale Kroop, director of economic development and neighborhood revitalization for the Town of Hamden.

5. SCA is a part of Optum, and the acquisition of NEASC complements Optum's development of a statewide ambulatory care network. ProHealth Physicians anchors Optum's evolving ambulatory care network with its primary and specialty care providers as well as ancillary services.
