Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital has huge 2015; Expanding in 2016 — 7 key notes

Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital recorded its busiest year ever in 2015 and is now expanding, according to an Argus Leader report.

Here are five things to know:

1. The hospital's cases were up 10 percent last year and are tracking for a 7 percent to 8 percent growth ahead of 2015 already this year.

2. Blake Curd, MD, took over as CEO last year and runs the hospital in addition to providing patient care.

3. The hospital's construction will go throughout the year to remodel and reconfigure an operating room for bigger surgeries and to add capacity. The expansion is expected to take around nine months.

4. After the initial expansion completes, the hospital will likely take on new expansion projects, adding floors to the three-story building.

5. The hospital will also add CT imaging services, as a growth in sports medicine and urology cases was noted over the past few years. Orthopedic service demands are steady as well.

6. Medical Facilities Corporation is the majority shareholder in Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital. The company reported total consolidated net income from continuing operations at $70.2 million in 2015, up from $51.2 million in 2014. Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital accounted for $95 million of the company's $308 million revenue and $38.7 million in income.

7. Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital plans to partner with GreatLife Malaska Golf Fitness to open a clinic inside the GreatLife Woodlake Athletic Club, according to the report. There is currently a similar clinic planned for the Center for Performance & Healthy Living.
