Here are five things to know:

1. Dr. Bailes previously opened a freestanding ER in Texas and decided to transplant the model in Colorado. Dr. Bailes’ model focuses on aesthetics in addition to care, and is designed to treat and discharge people within 24 hours.

2. Board-certified physicians will staff the freestanding ER 24/7. The ER features a CAT scan, 24-hour ultrasound, radiology, EKG machines, and medications for acute stroke and heart attack.

3. The physician-owned ER will accept most insurance plans, according to the report, and payment plan options to un- and underinsured individuals. The center doesn’t accept Medicare or Medicaid, but Dr. Bailes said the facility would “find ways to work with people who need financial help.”

4. Dr. Bailes hopes the freestanding ER will provide patients with more efficient care than the ERs at local hospitals.
