The average compensation for physician CEOs of multispecialty groups in 2013 was $425,000, up from $414,500 in 2011. This is a 3 percent increase. However, physician CEOs of single specialty groups saw an 8 percent decrease in compensation from $355,000 in 2011 to $325,000 in 2013.
Among all physician presidents and CEOs, the average compensation grew 4 percent to $410,000 this year. Physician CEOs of health systems saw a 9 percent decrease to $430,000 in 2013, which was still top among reporting groups. Physician CEOs of hospitals reported average compensation of $412,500 this year.
