Lawrence Memorial Hospital $93M expansion to include ASC: 5 things to know

Lawrence (Kan.) Memorial Hospital is planning to open a new outpatient surgery center in northwest Lawrence, according to the Lawrence Journal-World.

Her are five quick notes:

1. The new facility will include outpatient surgery rooms, physical rehabilitation and other services. OrthoKansas is expected to move into the center, giving the practice more space.

2. LMH will spend around $93 million to build the complex, up from the initial estimate of $64 million earlier in the process; the price increased after the hospital closely examined future needs.

3. LHM expects to pay around $4.35 million for 20 acres of property, currently owned by a local development group as well as $1.1 million for road development.

4. The project is expected to begin in April and the target open date is late 2019 or early 2020, according to the report.

5. The new facility is "designed to take advantage of growth opportunities" as well as improve LHM's market position as other hospitals, including the University of Kansas hospital system, consider expanding further into the market.
