The much-contested joint venture surgery center project planned for Orchard Park, N.Y., has received final approval from the New York State Department of Health, according to a Buffalo Business First report.
The surgery center is a joint venture between Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health, a group of physicians and the University at Buffalo School of Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. The project faced opposition from several nearby health systems, including Buffalo-based Catholic Health. The project was initially denied a certificate of need in 2014.
After receiving the green light, the Southtowns Ambulatory Surgery Center is now slated for completion in July 2016, according to the report.
