Buffalo, N.Y.-based Kaleida Health System is closing an ASC that has been in operation for more than 35 years, Buffalo News reported Sept. 11.

According to the report, the system plans to close the Millard Fillmore Surgery Center Oct. 1. The decision will impact 32 employees, who Kaleida said it will work with to find other job opportunities. The physicians who work at the ASC will continue to perform cases at the system’s hospitals and other ASCs.

In a statement cited by the publication, Kaleida said that the decision to close the ASC was driven by multiple factors, namely reductions in federal funding — specifically in Medicaid reimbursement.

“It was also based on a thoughtful review of the overall financial sustainability of the facility and the availability of similar services in the community,” Kaleida said in the statement.
