Westchester, Ill.-based Avanza + MedHQ has formally launched a non-equity management offering for ASCs and physician practices that lets providers get full-service management without giving up ownership, according to an Oct. 29 news release.
The offering ranges from comprehensive management, covering day-to-day leadership, financial oversight and growth strategy, to standalone services in revenue cycle management, HR and payer contracting. Providers keep governance and decision-making authority, and there are no minimum service requirements. The company said it has partnered with four health systems in the past 15 months to support their ASCs and physicians.
The launch comes as independent practice declines. The share of U.S. physicians in private practice fell from 60.1% in 2012 to 42.2% in 2024, according to the American Medical Association. In the company’s own survey of hospital and health system leaders, nine in 10 reported commercial payer pressure to move services to outpatient settings, and 89% had at least one ASC affiliated, owned or under development.
“This step formalizes the management work we already do and reinforces our commitment to working with providers on their terms, without ever taking ownership or leveraging what they’ve built,” CEO Erik Miller said in the release.
At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
