Minimally Invasive Vascular Centers of Maryland to open new surgery center — 5 insights

Rockville-based Minimally Invasive Vascular Centers of Maryland will open a surgery center in Laurel, Md., May 3.

Here's what you should know.

1. The center will provide vascular surgery options. Physicians will perform various procedures, including those to address limb loss, stroke, varicose veins, female pelvic pain and uterine fibroids, among many others.

2. Six surgeons will practice out of the center.

3. Center administrators expect the building will earn LEED Silver Certification.

4. The center will also employ 100-plus area residents.

5. Group physician Jeffery Dormu, MD, said, "This center is much needed and will hopefully save many lives. There are far too many people in this community who are suffering from complications related to uncontrolled high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol and excessive weight gain, which all lead to the vascular devastation that is rampant in our community."
