Michigan hospital expanding surgery center in $19M project — 3 insights

Beaumont Hospital Grosse Pointe (Mich.) will expand its surgery center through a $19 million project that will increase the size of its operating rooms, Crain's Detroit Business reports.

What you should know:

1. The expansion will also create a 900-square-foot hybrid surgical suite to combine surgical equipment, imaging systems and minimally invasive equipment.

2. The hospital will rebrand the center through the expansion, naming it after Urban Science CEO James Anderson and his wife, Patricia Anderson. The Andersons made a $5 million donation to the hospital, the largest in its history.

3. Beaumont earmarked a portion of the donation for the hybrid surgical suite, which they noted is a luxury most community hospitals don't have.
