The restructuring will take effect Jan. 2 as a result of low utilization during evenings and weekends, health system officials said.
At that time, Mayo will eliminate the positions of four nurses, one health unit coordinator and one sterile processing technician at Fairmont, which is part of Mayo’s southwest region.
Mayo said it will provide support to employees affected by the layoffs, many of whom can find opportunities elsewhere in the organization.
It will also begin referring all ENT surgeries to the Mankato, Minn., campus starting Jan. 2.
“Across our entire region, we will be continuing to assess all of our sites and working on ways to better align our services with patient demand,” said James Hebl, MD, vice president of Mayo’s southwest region. “Dramatic shifts in healthcare and how patients receive services are occurring across the United States, which is why we have an obligation to be nimble and proactive so we can succeed in the future.”
